about

The Tinkers came across Robert Jackson’s music score for Edwin Waugh’s poem and performed the song for the first time about twenty years ago at a festival in Werneth Park Oldham, appropriately as the day was coming to its end. The Tinkers also have had the privilege of singing it more than once at the Edwin Waugh Society meeting, held periodically in Rochdale.
There are five verses to the original poem.
